Instead, we focus on helping you make the right choice and supporting you every step of the way. Our advice doesn’t stop after a purchase — we are always available to help throughout the lifetime of your tortoise.
We work closely with trusted long-term breeders in the USA and UK, allowing us to provide some of the finest captive-bred tortoises available. Disease Prevention & Hygiene
To reduce the risk of disease and cross-contamination, we:
- Never house different tortoise species together
- Keep only small numbers of tortoises in each enclosure
- Use disposable latex gloves between pens
- Use disinfectant foot dips between enclosures
Important Advice When Buying a Tortoise
We strongly recommend avoiding sellers who:
- Cannot provide legal documentation for protected CITES species, including Hermann’s, Marginated, and Spur-Thighed tortoises
- Sell multiple reptile species while offering generalized care advice
- Recommend vivariums or tanks for non-tropical tortoise species
- Sell heat mats for tortoises
- Promote pellet-based tortoise foods high in protein
- Advise against outdoor access for young tortoises
- Encourage keeping different tortoise species together
These practices can lead to serious health problems, including stress, respiratory illness, Metabolic Bone Disease, and cross-species disease transmission.
At Verdant Reptiles, we believe tortoises deserve the highest standard of care. Our goal is to help every customer create a safe, healthy, and natural environment where their tortoise can thrive for many years to come.
